Ideation

1- Sketching and brainstorming

Brainstorming is a group creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members.

Alex Osborn identified brainstorming in his book Applied imagination and revealed best practices for brainstorming and the most important situations where brainstorming is very efficient to solve problems.

Sketching and brainstorming

One of the most common beliefs about brainstorming is that it is a light session with a group of friends or colleagues to think about new ideas without obstacles and write these ideas on paper before forgetting them, and finally they go back to these ideas and refine them.

But after reading Tina Sleg’s book InGenius it turned out to be much deeper than this wrong belief, and the book developed the best rules for brainstorming sessions which lead to the best results these rules were developed after a lot of experiments and visions which are:

  1. How the brainstorming room looks like?
  2. Who should be involved in a brainstorming session?
  3. What is the subject of the session?
  4. What other things should be available in a brainstorming room?
  5. How to start the session?
  6. What are the rules of the session?
  7. What are procedures of a brainstorming session?
  8. How to snap ideas?
  9. What is the ideal duration?
  10. What to do after the session finished?

2-Wireframe (Low fidelity prototype)

In the last step we had many sketches express ideas we’ve got in brainstorming, now it’s time to put details and draw the skeleton of ideas and convert it to a relative living person. In other words, this step is responsible for ordering details and elements to reveal and direct picture heading to the final picture.

A wireframe is blueprint that helps designers and developers think and communicate about the structure of the software or website you are building.

Wireframe not necessarily to be detailed it just illustrates key features and outlines in the product, system or website, it depends on sketches illustrated depending on user stories, scenarios, and cases.

A wireframe doesn’t necessarily represent visual design, brand identity or any graphic element.

Wireframes can be done by paper and pencil or by electronic tools.

It doesn’t matter if it includes all details the more important is to express clearly about details reached.
